Asset Hierarchy and List
MC Express provides two ways to view and access assets:
-
The Asset Hierarchy provides a hierarchical view of assets in your organization, allowing you to navigate to individual assets through a defined structure. The exact structure of your asset hierarchy will depend on your business model.
Some asset hierarchies are geographically-based (region > building > room > equipment), while others align to more of a manufacturing structure (unit, line, and so on). The Asset Hierarchy is most often ordered alphabetically by Asset Name, but this can be modified by your organization.
The Asset Hierarchy cannot be filtered.
Tap the List button in the gray header bar to switch to list view.
-
The Asset List provides a non-hierarchical view of all assets in your organization. Assets are displayed in alphabetical order by Asset Name. From the Asset List you can use filtering options to quickly locate a specific asset based on a number of attributes.
Tap the Hierarchy button in the gray header bar to switch to the hierarchical view.
Each row on the Asset Hierarchy and List pages includes the following:
-
Icon/Photo: An icon or photo displays for the asset. If no asset photo has been uploaded for the asset, an icon displays. If the record is a "location", a building icon displays. If the record is a piece of equipment, the equipment icon displays.
-
Asset Information: Each listed asset displays the Asset Name on the first row and the Asset ID on the second row.
The gray footer bar at the bottom of the page displays the total record count returned for the displayed list or node of the hierarchy.
Important!
The Asset Hierarchy cannot be filtered.
-
Tap the down arrow to the right of a record.
The next level of the hierarchy opens and a breadcrumb appears below the gray header bar, showing the Asset ID of the asset you are viewing.
If no arrow is displayed for a record, there are no records below the asset.
-
Repeat step 1 as necessary.
-
Choose between three options:
-
To return to a specific level of the hierarchy, tap the desired record in the breadcrumb.
-
To return to the top of the hierarchy, tap Top.
The selected level of the hierarchy displays.
-
To switch to the Asset List, tap the List button on the gray header bar.
Repair Center and Shop filtering defined on the Settings page can affect the way records display in the Asset Hierarchy and Asset List in different ways.
MC Express always returns records that have no value in the Repair Center or Shop fields as these fields are often not populated for asset records.
There are two scenarios that might occur for the Asset Hierarchy:
-
Scenario 1: Repair Center and Shop filtering does not impact the Asset Hierarchy.
Results: All accessible assets and locations display.
-
Scenario 2: Repair Center and Shop filtering does impact the Asset Hierarchy.
Results:
-
All locations display in the Asset Hierarchy, regardless of any Repair Center or Shop filtering.
This ensures you can navigate to all nodes in the event there is an asset below the node in the desired Repair Center or Shop. Locations are designated with the building icon in the hierarchy.
-
Equipment records only appear if:
-
They are in the designated Repair Center or Shop, OR
-
They have no value in the Repair Center or Shop fields.
Repair Center and Shop filtering always affect the records that display in the Asset List. Unlike the hierarchy, where all locations display to allow navigation, the list will only display records in the designated Repair Center or Shop or records with no value in the Repair Center or Shop fields.
Filter criteria are additive, as you specify more criteria, the resulting list will have fewer results. For example, the Asset List might return 500 assets. If you specified that you only want to see records that were available for service requests, the list might shorten to 300 assets. If you also specified that you only wanted to see records with a specific Classification, the list might shorten to 25 assets.
Important!
The Asset Hierarchy cannot be filtered.
-
Tap the Filter button on the gray header bar.
The Filter page opens.
-
Enter or select your filter criteria.
The fields that can be used to filter the list are displayed in alphabetical order in the Select Field field.
-
Tap the Apply button.
There are two methods to search for an asset:
-
Global Search: You can use the Global Search feature to quickly find the record by entering or scanning the Asset ID or Asset Name in the global search prompt.
-
Filter page: You can use the Filter page to define additional filter criteria to narrow down the Asset List.
If you are not seeing all records that match your criteria it is likely that some Repair Center or Shop filtering may be in effect. Default Repair Center and Shop filtering are set globally on the Settings page and are in effect throughout your MC Express working session. The setting can be modified at any time.
If you do not see a Repair Center option in the Select Field field on the Filter page, you have Repair Center filtering in effect or you only have access to a single Repair Center.
Assets that display can also be limited by Repair Center and Accessible Location restrictions defined by your System Administrator. You can only see nodes of the Asset Hierarchy to which you have been given access.
