User Interface Conventions
The following conventions are used throughout Maintenance Connection user interface:
General
-
Time Zones: Certain values, such as work order completion, are time-stamped. To ensure accurate time calculations when multiple time zones are in effect in an organization, Maintenance Connection maintains both server and client time zones. Saved data is converted to the server time zone, but information is displayed to you in your local client time zone. If you need to change your client time zone, you can do so using the Tools > Preferences > System > Client Time Zone option.
-
Data Entry: Once you have begun entering data, either by creating a new record or editing an existing record, the Save and Cancel buttons appear in the toolbar.
Field Conventions
Field Validation
Date you enter to into fields is validated to ensure a valid value is specified. If you enter an invalid value, a warning displays indicating the type of error. If you try to save a record with invalid data, Maintenance Connection does not save the record and places your cursor in the field requiring correction.
Field Types
Maintenance Connection includes the following types of fields:
-
Active Fields: The currently active field is highlighted in yellow.
-
Required Fields: Required fields have a blue border. You cannot save a record if any required fields are left empty.
-
Read Only Fields: Fields that you cannot edit have a gray background.
-
User Defined Fields: Some organizations create custom fields to track additional information. These fields can be accessed on by clicking the User-Defined sub-tab on a Work Center Details page.
Field lookup tables
Some fields are accompanied by lookup controls that allow you to select a value instead of typing a value directly in the field. There are two types of lookups:
-
Down arrow: A blue table appears allowing you to select a value. The first column contains the value that is entered into the field. The second column contains a description of the value. These lookup tables help you select the appropriate value even if you do not remember the appropriate code. If you have the appropriate permissions, you can edit the values in the table.
Note that codes for lookup tables cannot be translated into non-English languages, but the user-entry descriptions that correspond to them can be.
-
Down arrow with orange underline: A new window opens allowing you to specify criteria to look up the appropriate value for the field. For more information, see Lookups.
Field Help
Clicking the label preceding a field opens a small window providing more information about that field.
If you have the appropriate permissions, you can click the Edit button and make changes to the field help. You can include HTML tags to format the displayed text.
You can also click the Print button to print the content of the field help.
Open Field Details
Maintenance Connection allows you to view additional information about the current field your cursor is in (if it is connected to a module lookup) This can be useful if you want more information about the values you can select or if you need to add/edit a value.
To open field details, by right-clicking your mouse while within a field and select one of the following options:
-
Open: Select to replace the current content of the Work Center page with details about the selected field. The List pane retains a reference to the original record, so you can click it to return.
-
Open in New Window: Select to open a separate window containing details about the selected field. Once you are done working in the new window you should close it.
Edit Field Values
Some fields require you to select a value by clicking the button to the right of the field. If you have the appropriate permissions, you can edit the values in the table that displays by clicking the Edit button in the top right corner. Once in edit mode you can:
-
Edit an existing value: By clicking into a field and changing the displayed text. The stored value is on the left; the description is on the right.
-
Delete an existing value: By clicking the red X next to the value.
-
Add a new value: By scrolling to the bottom on the list, clicking (NEW), and then entering the new value.
When you have finished editing, click the Save button.
