User Interface Tips
This article provides tips for how to most effectively use the user interface of MC Express.
Navigation
The fastest method to navigate in MC Express depends on where you are and where you want to go.
-
Go to the Home page:
-
Tap the Menu button in the upper-right corner of the page.
-
Select Home.
The Home page opens.
-
-
To exit a module entirely and enter a new one, follow the Home page procedures above.
There are also ways to navigate from one type of record directly to another associated record. For example, you can navigate directly from a work order to its associated asset by selecting the available Asset on the Work Order Details > Request Info option.
-
To return to the Summary page of a record you are viewing, tap the gray header bar at the top of the page.
Find a Record
There are two ways to locate records:
Change Default Filters or Display Settings
Barcodes
When accessing MC Express from a mobile device, you can scan barcodes to quickly find a record. The Scan button pictured below appears when making a global search.
The Scan button appears in numerous places in the system where scanning a barcode might be valuable. For example, a Scan button is available next to the Asset field when you are creating a new work order so that you can scan an asset tag. Similarly, features such as Count and Transfer Inventory provide an option to scan a barcode from the Stockroom label.
In places where scanning is often used, MC Express endeavors to put focus on the entry field automatically. Automatic focus is in effect on the following pages:
-
Global Search: In Global Search, the Search field is automatically in focus when you open the Menu.
-
Part Count/Adjust/Transfer/Checkout: Scanning is also widely used with part utilities such as count and checkout. As such, the Part field is automatically focused when you access these pages.
Scan a Barcode Using a Mobile Device
Scan a barcode using a mobile device:
-
Press or tap the Scan button.
The Barcode Scan page opens.
-
Position the code properly in the camera.
The camera scans the barcode automatically and a dialog opens, prompting you to confirm the read.
-
Confirm the code read by selecting the dialog or by selecting Apply.
The system navigates to the corresponding record in MC Express.
Scan a Barcode Using a Bluetooth Scanning Device
If your organization has items barcoded with MC Express IDs and your device is connected to a scanning mechanism, you can scan the barcode into a field.
Scan a barcode:
-
Tap the field you want to enter a scanned value into.
Fields that are not the current focus are shown in white.
-
Use your device's mechanism to scan the barcode.
The value will be automatically populated into the field you tapped.
Scanners can typically be set up to pass a "return/enter" after the barcode value. If a barcode is being scanned into a Search field, this will result in the execution of the search without having to tap the Search button.
Fields
Fields and field names are often tailored by your organization during configuration. You may not see all the fields that are described in online help. They may also have different labels. Contact your System Administrator for further information about fields.
The following sections describe some of the unique types of fields you will use in MC Express.
Required Fields
Required fields have a thick blue border.
